LUZBEL

Augusto Jaramillo Pineda

Fallen angel, the devil in person, seducer in the Garden of Eden – Luzbel, Spanish for Lucifer, is an extremely contradictory, hybrid figure. In his long history as noble ‘bringer of light’ in antiquity, the sinister prince of hell of the Christians, and a satanic art figure in literature and the media, he combines enlightenment and threat, departure and finiteness, flight and decline.

In his dance solo, Augusto Jaramillo Pineda is dedicated to the multifarious figure of the mystic rebel and his traits that we as humans bear in ourselves. He dances the sensuality of Satan, explores the secret of the angel, lends the devil’s anger a contemporary shape, and moving images to the visionary’s curiosity. Stitch by stitch be weaves an eerie atmosphere of compressed physical energy out of gestures, sounds, words, and light, an energy that can explode in sudden horror at any given moment: Luzbel is omnipresent and unpredictable, in dance and in humans.
