No. 3 (abstract joys of being)

Milla Koistinen

NO. 3 (ABSTRACT JOYS OF BEING) by the Finnish artist Milla Koistinen is a choreographic examination of the work of the American visual artist Agnes Martin (1912-2004). A meditatively soothing study of symmetry and chaos, of repetition and variation, which transfers the moment of infinity from abstract painting to dance art.

Presented by steptext dance project and jazzahead! Festival, the duet created in 2016 can be experienced in Germany for the first time. At the performances in the Städtische Galerie Bremen, the audience can view every detail from all sides. In the rising and falling stream of movement of the piece, fine shifts of tempi, Shapes, rhythms, repetitive patterns: one hardly noticeably leads into the next. With high precision, the dancers unfold subtle, swinging rotations to sound compositions by Donald Beteille and the member of Einstürzende Neubauten Jochen Arbeit. Consistently alert to the points of contact between imagined “infinity” and felt “joy of being”.
