The Artificial Nature Project

Mette Ingvartsen

Mette Ingvartsen, choreographer from Denmark, is one of the most important avant-gardists in the field of contemporary dance who constantly pushes the limits of our perception of choreography and movement. The Artifical Nature Project is one of her mind-blowing artistic works of staging perceptions of nature, of transforming and convulsing landscapes.

The outcome is a performance that literally throws things around. With the machinery of theatre illusion it draws the spectator into its world: We see lava, liquids and rain, but most of all a long transformation of qualities that could also be considered abstract movements. The materials and performers are composing a body that is no longer made of human flesh but rather of a floating, flying mass. One image is replaced by another, rapidly altering our perception of a glittering landscape.
