Philippe Saire

In the beginning there was the room. For his series ‘Dispositifs’, which he began in 2011 with BLACK OUT, Swiss-based choreographer Philippe Saire developed visual concepts as the starting point for his artistic research. Located between dance and visual art, BLACK OUT presents an unusual stage space that allows the audience to look down on the dancers from above. Moving image compositions are created on the floor: Black granules fall on two men and one woman, spread over the surface. Thousands of little stones transform the world of the dancers. Their movements draw motifs, a continuous play with perspectives and contrasts unfolds. Little by little the darkness gains ground – until the blackout, which touches the dark sides in all of us.
